TV110 Sizing Question...

Postby Miss_Eliza » Thu Aug 09, 2012 7:02 pm

I was surprised recently with the TV110 corset pattern. I have been wanting a new corset for awhile as I do a lot of 1880s reenacting. I admit I drool massively over all the TV patterns, but for some reason the sizing ALWAYS does me in.

The first corset I'm making is for a friend her measurements are:
49" bust
45" waist
52" high hip
9" length
Now the pattern instructions say "measurements give in the chart are "as laced" and include a 2 inch gap and allowance for fabric give. if using your unlaced waist measurements subtract 2-4 inches.

The woman was not corseted when measure and is very "Squishy" when it comes to corsets. She also usually wears a d or DD corset. (I know that isn't really as important.

I'm completely stumped as to how to figure out what size to make. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance. :D

If you know her standard corseted waist measure, then you can use that measurement as-is for the waist size. The cup size will be more dependent on the difference between bust and waist, rather than bra size. I know some DDD large frame people that wear an A cup in a corset.

Start by selecting you waist size according to her measure. If you don't know her corseted measure, then Subtract 3-4" from her uncorseted measure (you said she is squishy) for a 41-42" waist measurement. That would be size K waist size. Go up the K column, and you find 50" under the A cup size. That leaves you with a K corset, with the A cup.

If she regularly laces down to a smaller waist, say size J, then you would make the hip the size K and the bust a J with a B cup.

Thank you Heather, she has the Dore corset currently from laughing moon... I suppose would could corset her into it and see where it leaves us. But I think I will try the measurements you suggested first. :D

Just a small update: I have started my "mock up" which has come out fantastic so far. I just need to order the proper length of boning and it will be done. I also ordered my skirt pattern and the new bustle pattern. :D When I get it all done I will take pictures of all the components. :D

Well here it is... this is technically my mock up. But since time is of the essence it will actually be my functional corset for an event on the 1st. I am truly pleased and last years bodice that I made actually fits better with this corset than the Laughing moon corset I originally made.

Oh and taking pictures of one self in a mirror is REALLY hard. >,< So is lacing ones self. However lacing this one was WAY easier than my previous one mainly because this one has a busk. :D And the mirror I used is VERY old so its not the greatest.

Thanks Heather it was a dream to work with. I can't tell you how many people I have told about it. LOL!
:bounce:

Though I probably should have taken your advice and made the J with the B cup... But it still fits and is lovely. :D
