Moving down...

Postby JP » Sat Jun 28, 2008 9:48 am

I've at last moved from the extra-large size to the large and wondered if it was possible to make my bustle smaller (TV101)? Would you just tie the ties tighter? With a good fit, where should the ends of the wire on each side lie? Around your hips? Against the back of your bum and legs?? Not too sure and would appreciate advice.
Thank you!

Sorry I can't help with your question as I've not even started my bustle but...congrats on your weight loss!

Your question may have just gotten overlooked. I'm sure someone will chime in soon with an answer! I'm interested because I'm currently dropping some pounds and if it continues after I finish my bustle dress, I'd like to know the answer to the question myself!

Also, I was away for the last 5 days so I had a lot of catching up to do on the forum.

Me too. I have lost 40 and have still more to lose. I have already made my bustle but when I make my new corset, I think the waist will be too big. Hopefully it will still be usable

JP,
I'm thinking that you could just take in the waistband to the size you need (maybe putting darts in the excess material?), and then pull the bones tighter accordingly. On my bustle, the bones rest against my hips, if that helps any. I've never had to make my bustle smaller, so this is just a theory :D . Hope that helps! And congrats on the weight loss!

Sorry I missed this post earlier.

I don't see any reason to need to remake your bustle. Just pull the strings in tighter to fit your slimmer outline. The ends of the bustle should end at the sideback of you body. Not poking you, nor sticking out. The strings will hold the bustle behind your body, so it won't ever go around to the sides.

Great! Thank you so much! Just didn't know if I'd change the shape too much by pulling the strings in tighter... I guess it just makes the bustle stick out a bit more at the back. Not a bad thing some might say... Congrats too to Danibelle and Big Momma Black - I've not lost vast amounts yet but enough so that the very fitted victorian bodices need adjusting. And I'm quite happy to adjust down... rather than adjust up! :D

OK, I think I am a little confused. do you tie the strings together around your body, or do you tie them together behind your body?

Behind your body. :) The strings rest against your backside to hold the wires out the back.

that is what I thought......is it the same thing with the tie strings that you sew into the TV261? The pattern says that they tie together around the bustle but I wasn't sure if that meant around the poufs or around the actual bustle

Yep. same thing for the ties in the skirts, it all ties behind you.
