Argh. Petticoat issue - ruffle strips

Postby C. Diane » Sun Jul 20, 2008 4:29 pm

So, I bought some muslin to make a Belle Epoch petti. Of course I didn't look at the pattern immediately beforehand, so I got 4 yards. Maybe 4.5. At any rate, I have just enough to make 6 ruffle strips, rather than the 8 called for.

I have some other muslin around, but it's a different color and texture. I don't mind using it to make the waistband, but I'd rather all my ruffles be the same.

How vital is it that the view 4 petti has 8 strips of ruffle? 6 would be less ruffly, I'm sure, but it would reach, right? I'm planning to stitch 1.5" strips of buckram at the flounce-ruffle seam, as well as at the upper flounce seam, to give it extra stiffness. The polyester horsehair braid I added to my older view 4 petti isn't stiff enough to support the ripple skirt on its own (so I'm going to use 2, as directed.)

I swear, I'm having more problems with this outfit...

Yes, 6 strips will work. You will have 1.5 to 1 ruffles instead of 2:1 is all.

Thanks :) That's what I figured, eventually - 4 flounces and 6 strips vs 8.
