1868 day dress - Finally got to wear it - pictures :)

It started out as an 1866 project but after I was browsing through my 1868 La Mode Illustree I was quite taken with this idea....
I used the TV247 - 3 times, for petticoat (added tucks and some cording), underskirt with 6" hemfacing and overskirt. As described in the magazine I added loops in the seams and fabric covered buttons just below the waist of the overskirt.

Looking for the right thing to do with my trim, the 1868 was more partial to self fabric pleating, but I really wanted to use this trim! Been waiting to use it for 5 months! I browsed through my 19th century fashion in detail and fell in love with an 1862 decorated bodice.

Further more I made 19 buttonholes, with gimp, and still had these lovely glass buttons. The armscye, neck and wrist have self made velvet brown piping around the edges. The bodice is the TV400.

All is worn over an elliptical crinoline!

Finally got to wear it last weekend!!!

I'm still making a bonnet, a hairpiece and a parasol... after that I'll take the completed outfit for a small spin to the nearby lake and some pictures of me wearing it, before taking it to the fair. Sort of a test-run so to say!

Thank you :D The fit is much better on me because I have more support for the elliptical crinoline... the back of my doll gave a bit because of the weight!
This is not a dress to wear in a China shop with things below waist level... if someone walks into my skirt it sways!

It's the mid victorian winter bonnet :D I wanted to make it for Dickens and ran out of time to get a different pattern to match time period exactly, so I save myself some time for December :D I call it the "birdie" for it's shape, it holds really well on this hairdo too. We had some strong winds and it didn't even shift at all!

WOW! Thanks for the information on the fabulous hat! You look MARVELOUS!

Please, could we have a closer look at that wonderful bonnet? Was it difficult at all? You did a stellar job on making it.

I've made several buckram hats before, this wasn't more difficult, was quite fun to do!

Unfortunately my husband failed to put the bonnet straight for the pictures, *sigh*

You look stunning! I love brown and blue together, and the plaid is so fun! And regardless of the positioning, the bonnet is lovely.

Wonderful! The colours are such a perfect choice for this period and it still has amazing "punch" in sepia.

Brava :)
