More specifically... can I morph the French Vest "tail" onto the Vest Basque back? Or is this a Very Bad Idea that should die a tragic and quiet death? Actually, just to be sure... is this bodice actually the French Vest?

That bodice actually predates the French Vest. But it is pretty similar. Yes, you can pretty much use any front with any back, with all the patterns. It is just a matter of evening out the lengths of the seams when you are done.

Isn't it great? I love possibilities. I redrafted the TV400 1871 day bodice from peplum back to a basque back. Wish I'd thought to just use the other pattern pieces.

I just looked at my french vest bodice from this past winter and It looks like that except it has another set of pleats at the center back seam.
