Hand Rolled Hem Video

Postby MaryGode » Thu May 24, 2012 6:55 am

I loves me some fiddly hand sewing! Regardez-vous this vid of an Hermés scarf getting its hem. I've always stitched a line of very short machine stitches first and trimmed close as I hem, but this seems to be worked on the raw edge with a very deft rolling with the fingers. I'm thinking that would only work on the straight of grain like these squares have. There's even a closeup of turning the corner. 8)

Oh my GOD those corners! You know you're a sewing nerd when you're in awe of such a nicely rolled hem corner. I think that technique of rolling it would depend on the fabric too. I can see certain fabrics just rolling across your fingers instead of rolling onto itself. Still, it was a really cool video! That's something we all aspire to, be better at hand sewing, especially stuff like this.
